Barr Trail Mountain Race Barr Trail Mountain Race
On the trail up the hill through the woods to Barr Camp we go
Pikes Peak – Manitou Springs, Colorado – July 12, 2009 – 7 a.m.

Presented by Pikes Peak National Bank
T-Shirts
All runners who beat the 3 hour 30 minute cut-off time will receive a finisher T-shirt. Each year the race shirt will depict a different scene from along the trail.

This year, our 11th, we went with a dark blue technical shirt from La Sportiva. Keeping with tradition we used a couple of spikes and a COG in the design. Volunteer shirts were cotton and had the word “volunteer” added under the date.

We got such positive feedback on the technical shirt from La Sportiva we stuck with it. The scene this year was from just after Bobs Road. Because it was our 10th year we used a COG and a spike to make the number 10. There are also 10 runners hidden in the design. Volunteer shirts were cotton and had the word “volunteer” added under the date.

2009 BTMR T-Shirt

This year’s technical shirt was from La Sportiva and we went with gray. The scene this year was from lightning point which is 1 mile down from Barr Camp. As with most years we kept the COG as it represents the ultimate symbol of mountain climbing ability. Volunteer shirts were cotton and had the word “volunteer” added under the logo. Oh, we hid 9 runners in the design which is something we were not able to do the last two years.

Sticking with the bright color “sun” we once again offered a technical shirt. This time from BOA. We incorporated the masters award (a polished spike) into the design. Of course, we kept the COG—the ultimate symbol of mountain climbing ability. Volunteer shirts were cotton and had the word “volunteer” added under the logo.

We went technical in 2006 — as is technical shirts from GoLite. And because one of the main benefits of a technical shirt is their breathability we reduced the size of the art on the front by quite a bit. We brought back the COG because to us the COG trains symbolize the ultimate in mountain climbing ability and as always the race starts at the COG depot. The colors were chosen to work well with the “sun” color of the shirts. Volunteer shirts were cotton and had the word “volunteer” added under the logo.

2006 BTMR T-Shirt

After a couple of years of white shirts we went with ash again in 2005. This year’s graphic is based upon the first view of Pikes Peak from the Barr Trail as was the inspiration for the 2002 t-shirt graphic. The artist did take some creative liberty however, and in order to capture a more prominent view of Pikes Peak a digital photo was taken (just up the hairpin off Barr Trail to the top of the Incline) as you approach No Name Creek. This year we also incorporated a runner’s image to emphasize “race.” Volunteer shirts had the word “volunteer” at the bottom. Just for fun seven runners were hidden in the design. This does not count the one in the title - that is not hidden!

10,707' Camerons Cone was the subject of the 2004 BTMR race shirt. We also paid a little tribute to Fred Barr who of course built the Barr Trail. We kept the COG because we like it and because as always the race starts in front of the COG depot. Volunteer shirts had the word “volunteer” at the bottom. Finally, because quite a few people missed them last year (we forget them) we hid 5 runners in the design:-)

2004 BTMR T-Shirt

For 2003 we started with the course map and used it to draw the main design. Of course since we start at the COG we had to keep part of a COG in there:-) Volunteer shirts had the word “volunteer” at the bottom. We went back to a white shirt this year. For those that think we got the height of Pikes Peak wrong just read this.

2003 BTMR T-Shirt

For 2002 we started with a photo of the first view of Pikes Peak from the Barr Trail. We then took the COG from last year and morphed it into the tree. Once again, just for fun, 7 runners and a clog (a wooden shoe) were hidden in the design of the shirt. Volunteer shirts had the word “volunteer” under the words “Mountain Race”. The shirts were gray this year.

2002 BTMR T-Shirt

In 2001 an actual COG from the Manitou and Pikes Peak Railway was traced for the border. A photo of Barr Camp was used as a reference for the drawing. Just for fun 6 runners and a clog (a wooden shoe) were hidden in the design of the shirt. Volunteer shirts had the word “volunteer” at the bottom of the COG. Note: The race cut-off was changed to 3h30m this year.

2001 BTMR T-Shirt

For the inaugural race in 2000 the Rock Arch that the Barr Trail passes through at about 2.5 miles was selected. Volunteers received the same shirt without the word “finisher.” Note: The race cut-off was 4 hours this year.
